Susan Neil serves as the President of Hanscomb, where she directs and shapes the company’s Canadian and global operations. With a distinguished thirty-six-year career at Hanscomb, Susan has led numerous projects, including traditional design stage cost planning and control services, and has been extensively involved in preparing, analyzing, and certifying costs for public infrastructure and Public Private Partnership (P3) developments.
As one of Canada’s top Cost Consultants, Susan has overseen multibillion-dollar projects in Ontario’s public and private sectors, focusing on healthcare projects like Trillium Health Partners, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, SickKids Project Horizon, Humber River Regional Hospital, Halton Healthcare, and Cortellucci Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. Her expertise in hospital project capital planning, particularly Cost Share Agreements (CSA) and Final Estimate of Costs (FEC) is unparalleled, and her presentation skills make her a sought-after advisor.
Susan is dedicated to advancing Quantity Surveying and has taught at Mohawk College and Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University). She has also been a guest lecturer at the University of Waterloo’s School of Architecture. She is a fellow of the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS), a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), and past Chair and current Board Member of the Canadian Association of Consulting Quantity Surveyors (CACQS).
