Mara Baum, FAIA, LEED Fellow, WELL AP, EDAC

With more than two decades of experience, Mara is an internationally known expert in creating sustainable healthcare environments. A LEED Fellow and a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, she has focused much of her career around complex medical center projects, providing leadership across sustainability, carbon emissions reduction, climate resilience, and health and wellbeing. She works closely with her clients to ensure that solutions exceed sustainability goals while also aligning with budget, operability, and infection prevention criteria.

Mara is a sought-after public speaker, author, and long-time industry volunteer. She helped to write the LEED for Healthcare and WELL Building Standard rating systems and is currently helping to develop climate resilience requirements for the next version of LEED (v5). A strong voice for climate action, Mara co-authored the soon-to-be-released (Spring 2024) ASHRAE Guide to Decarbonizing Hospitals. Mara is a longtime educator who teaches Sustainable Design for Healthcare Facilities and Green Building at Health Online at Boston Architectural College.
