Dr. Brunet is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) and Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Sainte-Justine since September 3, 2015. He was the CEO of Sainte-Justine since January 3, 2009. He is also the President of the University of Montreal Health Network (RUIS). He is Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Montreal, Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the University of Paris, as well as Professor of Management at HEC Montreal and the Business School of Paris.
His many accomplishments include the development of a Clinical Research Program in Critical Care and a Cardiac Surgery Centre in Paris; the design of a private hospital project in Saint Petersburg, Russia and the creation of an academic Critical Care Department in Toronto. At CHUM and CHU Sainte-Justine, he is overseeing numerous modernization projects, including the construction of two new research centres and state of the art academic hospitals for specialized care units with a total budget of $3.4 billion.
Born in Paris, Dr. Brunet completed his medical studies at the Faculty of Medicine Cochin Port Royal, the University of Paris V. He is Board certified in cardiology, intensive care and emergency medicine. Dr. Brunet went on to complete his studies in management at Paris Business School, Public Health School of Management at Harvard and the University of Toronto. Until his arrival at CHU Sainte-Justine, he was the Chief of the Department of Critical Care at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto and the Medical Director of their Telemedicine Program. He then became President and CEO of the alliance between CHUM and CHU Sainte-Justine. He has extensive experience in clinical research, education and hospital management with numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and chapters in textbooks. His main fields of interest are knowledge management in medicine, learning healthcare network development and improvement in global performance.
During the last years both at CHUM and CHU Sainte-Justine, Dr. Brunet has implemented a model of management integrating care, research and education to continuously improve global performance. Concomitantly with CHU Sainte-Justine Dr Brunet has increased its involvement in the Quebec Healthcare Network for integrated maternal and child care. The whole transformation of the two hospitals toward an agile, organic enterprise was facilitated through an international program knowledge management and sharing network, developed from 2002, to provide additional human resources and scientific knowledge.
