Scott Nelson AIA, ACHA, has spent his entire professional career in the planning, design and construction of healthcare facilities. During these 32 years, he has sat on both sides of the architect-client table. Scott has served as principal for national/international architectural firms, providing the highest-level planning expertise to healthcare clients. In his architect role, Scott guided the planning and design of projects for name-recognized hospitals and systems, many of whom have introduced innovations in the environment of patient care.
Scott joined Advocate Aurora Health in 2010 and directs all planning, design and construction efforts for the system. Currently, his team is responsible for managing forward-focused projects for 27 hospitals and 500 additional care sites. Scott has played a key role in designing and implementing new project delivery methods that have proven more cost- and time-efficient, and while delivering a higher cost savings over the building’s projected life cycle. Key to his contributions is his ability to focus a set of diverse stakeholders on making critical decisions at the right time to maximize the project value proposition.
With Bachelor and Master of Architecture degrees and a Master of Business Administration, Scott is also a licensed Architect in the State of Illinois, a 30 year member of the American Institute of Architects and a Board Certified – Founding Member of the American College of Healthcare Architects.
