In this role, Irik has been involved in the construction of the hull and installing machinery systems, outfitting the accommodation decks/hospital, extensive testing, and trials before the installation of additional medical equipment, general supplies, and further testing. Mr. Mallie previously had a 30-year career with the B.C. Ferries. The last 23 with B.C. Ferries, Irik was the Chief Engineer for the companies new ferry fleet. In addition, Irik has been volunteering with Mercy Ships for more than ten years. He and his wife Cathy – a palliative care nurse – have also served on the Africa Mercy.
