Dr Drummond was a nurse academic at the University of Alberta for 40 years. Her clinical practice was rooted in person and family centred health service and was focused on child, family and community health. Her very successful research program was centred on service to vulnerable populations including: children with disabilities, at-risk mothers, low income families. She was appointed Vice-Provost (Health Sciences Council) during the last ten years of her career. As part of that appointment she was the academic lead of key health science interdisciplinary and interprofessional initiatives, including the infrastructure and academic programming of the Edmonton Clinic Health Academy. The Health Sciences Council consists of eight health science deans (Medicine and Dentistry, Nursing, Rehabilitation Medicine, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physical Education and Recreation, Agricultural, Environmental and Life Sciences, School of Public Health, Augustana Faculty), and the Vice President Research. As Vice-Provost, Dr Drummond worked with the council members and a core team to provide academic leadership, strategic direction, administrative management, and facilitation of partnering between the health science faculties and public, government and private entities to promote interdisciplinary health science learning, discovery, and citizenship at the University of Alberta.
