Brendan Trayner, Ph.D.

Brendan Trayner, Ph.D., is the Senior Manager, Health and Infrastructure at Rohit Infrastructure, a division of the Rohit Group based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. 

He is a seasoned project leader who directs the Rohit Health/Rohit Infrastructure division, leveraging a unique blend of clinical expertise and extensive real estate development experience to bridge the gap between clinical needs and built environments.

Leadership & Project Portfolio

Dr. Trayner oversees the planning, design, and execution of complex mixed-use, commercial, and institutional projects, ensuring alignment with high-level organizational goals. He manages budgets, timelines, and stakeholder expectations with a strategic approach, navigating constraints and driving seamless project delivery. His strong interpersonal skills and keen attention to detail allow him to serve as the “connective tissue” and the glue that holds all stakeholders and project elements together, ensuring high-quality, on-time, and on-budget outcomes.

Brendan has led or significantly contributed to several high-value projects, including:

  • Covenant Wellness Community (CWC): A $410 million development partnership with Covenant Health located in Edmonton, Alberta, the first phase of this project is anchored by a Community Health Centre and site Infrastructure project. He managed and led site masterplanning, rezoning, permitting, design, client user group engagement, GC procurement, construction, contract administration, turnover to clinical operations and project reporting to both Rohit and Covenant Health Leadership.
  • Covenant Residential Project (199 units): A $50 million initiative involving design, permitting, CM procurement, financing package/pro forma preparation, and team leadership.
  • Covenant Commercial Project: A $12 million project where he provided crucial assistance in site logistics and infrastructure design feedback.
  • 102 Street Centre Capital Improvements: Over $15 million in three major infrastructure improvement projects (Boiler replacement, Chiller replacement, and electrical distribution replacement) in partnership with the property manager.
  • Family Medicine Clinic: A $4 million project where he managed design, user group engagement, CM procurement, budgeting, value engineering, and construction management. 
  • Previous Healthcare Experience: In a prior role, he managed the design and construction of the Alberta Health Services West Edmonton Kidney Care (Phase 1) Dialysis Clinic.

Core Responsibilities and Specializations

As a Senior Manager, Dr. Trayner’s role extends to driving business development for the division, which includes identifying new opportunities, creating proposals, and negotiating contracts with external clients. He assists senior executive leadership with the evaluation of future project opportunities, including preparing proformas and business cases for the Rohit internal Investment Committee.

His responsibilities also encompass operational leadership and organizational growth:

  • Process Development: Developing new systems and processes for the health and infrastructure division and identifying opportunities for operational efficiencies.
  • Client & Stakeholder Management: Building and maintaining strong, long-lasting client relationships and serving as the lead point of contact for all client matters, developing a trusted advisor status with customers, staff, and executive sponsors.
  • Policy and Strategy: Supporting the development of policies and procedures for sustainable divisional growth and assisting with the implementation of broader organizational initiatives like new technology implementation and climate resiliency strategies.
  • Mentorship: Managing and mentoring team members within the division.

Furthermore, Brendan brings Healthcare Planning and Design Experience to the table. He contributed to developing the Government of Alberta Seniors and Housing Design Guidelines and Technical Standards by facilitating stakeholder workshops and providing critical technical review and feedback, ensuring that the design and execution of projects align with critical infrastructure requirements and best practices.
